11 Apr How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Venue
There’s so much to think about for a wedding. The cake, the dress, the traditions, the theme (the list goes on.) You may want a traditional cake eating, dress wearing wedding. Or you may be keen on an alternative version and wear a suit on the day. Either way, there’s one thing all weddings need. A venue. Here are our tips on how to choose the perfect wedding venue…
Wedding dates naturally play an important part in choosing your venue! Some couples desire to get married on the day they met or on their parents wedding day. Most couples end up picking a day based on the venue’s availability. Start by picking potential dates, follow the rest of our tips below and if you need to move the date once you’ve found ‘the place’ – do it.
Numbers and Catering
Before you even start to look for venues you need to decide how many people you’d like to invite to the wedding. There’s no point in picking that cute farm shed you always drive past if it only seats 20 people. Think about the food you have in mind for the wedding – is it a sit down dinner/buffet, picnic style or just a simple stand and eat canapé meal. If you’re wanting a sit down dinner – you’ll need the space for tables and chairs (and tables and chairs). If you’re happy with picnic style or even getting some food trucks in – all you need is a nice garden area for people to grab what they’d like.
Once you’ve worked out how many guests you’d like at your wedding and how you’re going to feed them – think about how much you’re willing to, or can spend. Like most things in adult life, you have to set a budget. Start by doing research on the going rate of wedding venues to see if there is a trend. That way you’ll know if you’ve found a bargain or are being overcharged. Don’t be afraid to negotiate. Wedding venues are used to this! Look for places within you r budget. The last thing you want is to fall in love with a venue that’s outside of your budget. Generally couples spend about 50% of their wedding budget on the venue.
Stalk your Photographer
It might sound crazy. But you’d be surprised at how many people pick a wedding location purely based on where the photos will be taken. Look up your photographers photo blog and see if you spot any locations perfect for your wedding shots.
